Student Competition Guidelines

IPhA/MPA Joint Annual Meeting - September 24-26

IPhA & MPA offer a great opportunity for student pharmacists to participate in three competitions during Annual Meeting.  These events are modeled after similar national competitions and provide students additional experience and opportunities to advance their communication, business, and clinical skills.  The Patient Counseling and Poster competitions are funded by a grant from the IPhA Foundation.

Patient Counseling and Business Plan Competitions will take place prior to the conference and winners will be announced on Saturday, September 26.  Poster participants will present their posters live via Zoom during the exhibit time on Saturday.  Winners will be announced at the end of the the day on September 26.

Poster Competition

The 2020 IPhA & MPA Conference and Trade Show is the perfect venue to showcase one’s unique practice idea, program, project and/or experience.  It provides the presenter with the ideal setting to share with pharmacy colleagues.  Poster topics may encompass any area of pharmacy practice. Click here for the specific guidelines for this competition. Please note, this is not only for students. Pharmacists, technicians, students, residents, etc. can participate.

Patient Counseling Competition

This competition will mimic the National Patient Counseling. The competition is designed to reflect changes that are occurring in practice, to promote and encourage further professional development of the student pharmacist and to reinforce the role of the pharmacist as a health care provider and educator. Students will demonstrate the counseling skills they have learned within their didactic course and/or work-related experiences.

Business Plan Competition

The organization has recognized the need to mentor students who have an interest in expanding pharmacy services within corporate, independent or consulting arenas of pharmacy.  The primary goal of this competition is to allow students to create a fluid and comprehensive business plan. Pharmacy is a very broad and diverse profession. Any ideas/concepts supporting and enhancing the practice of pharmacy would be considered a valid entry for the purposes of this competition. This can include but is not limited to, the purchase of an existing community pharmacy or consulting business, establishing a new community pharmacy, or developing a new pharmacy/pharmacist-centered patient care service.
