So there I was driving to work trying to think about anything but pharmacy and the podcast I heard made me start to rethink how I provide patient care. Adam Conover did an Adam Ruins Everything episode on conspiracy theories. What was even more interesting though was the interview with the Chair in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Bristol in the UK, Stephan Lewandowsky.

They discussed the backfire effect and how trying to change someone's mind can actually push them into digging their heels into their belief. This is especially important with topics like vaccines where there is a lot of misinformation. A more effective method would be to poke holes in their argument, restate facts, or provide an alternative narrative.

I've provided a link below if you want to listen for yourself.
