New Practitioners,

The testing window for the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) is currently open. "Registration for the Fall 2017 BPS examination window is open from May 8-August 1, 2017. The Fall 2017 computer-based BPS Examination will be held Thursday, September 21, 2017 through Saturday October 7, 2017", according to their site http://www.bpsweb.org

You may be eligible to be certified even if you have NOT completed a residency in one of the specialties: Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, Critical Care Pharmacy, Nuclear Pharmacy, Nutrition Support Pharmacy, Oncology Pharmacy, Pediatric Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy, and Psychiatric Pharmacy. If you spend at least 50% of your time working in a practice setting for 4 years you can sit for the Ambulatory Care, Critical Care, Oncology, Pediatric, or Psychiatric Pharmacy exam. It's shorter if you have a PGY1 or PGY2 residency. It's 3 years post-licensure for Nutritional Support Pharmacy and Pharmacotherapy.

I took the exam for Ambulatory Care Pharmacy last fall and would be happy to answer any questions. I think this is an excellent way promote our profession through professional development.
