New Practitioners,

The testing window for the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) is currently open. "Registration for the Fall 2017 BPS examination window is open from May 8-August 1, 2017. The Fall 2017 computer-based BPS Examination will be held Thursday, September 21, 2017 through Saturday October 7, 2017", according to their site

You may be eligible to be certified even if you have NOT completed a residency in one of the specialties: Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, Critical Care Pharmacy, Nuclear Pharmacy, Nutrition Support Pharmacy, Oncology Pharmacy, Pediatric Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy, and Psychiatric Pharmacy. If you spend at least 50% of your time working in a practice setting for 4 years you can sit for the Ambulatory Care, Critical Care, Oncology, Pediatric, or Psychiatric Pharmacy exam. It's shorter if you have a PGY1 or PGY2 residency. It's 3 years post-licensure for Nutritional Support Pharmacy and Pharmacotherapy.

I took the exam for Ambulatory Care Pharmacy last fall and would be happy to answer any questions. I think this is an excellent way promote our profession through professional development.
