New practitioners,

Did you know that you can sign up to have access to the Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP)??????

You can search a patients name and DOB to gain access to every time they have filled a controlled substance in the state of Illinois, no matter what pharmacy filled it. You can see the drug, strength, days supply, doctor, pharmacy, and if they billed insurance or paid cash.

Use this as a tool going forward to prevent drug diversion and guide you in decisions to fill questionable narcotic scripts. Sign up today, there is no charge! Tell Physicians that they can sign up too and have access to everything that is prescribed under their DEA number.

So far 49 states have PMP's (Missouri stands alone without access) and some states share info amongst themselves.

I currently practice in Missouri, where there is no PMP. I remember the good ol' days in Illinois when i had access. It gave me the confidence to dispense to patients and still do my due diligence as a pharmacist. There's a hard balance to strike between preventing drug diversion or abuse and preventing legitimate pain patients from access to their meds. Anyone have a story to tell about how the PMP aided you in dispensing controls?
