So I'm aware that the FDA approved Shingrix (https://www.gsk.com/en-gb/media/press-releases/shingrix-approved-in-the-us-for-prevention-of-shingles-in-adults-aged-50-and-over/) and one thing I'm grappling with are patients who want to get vaccinated now and/or if they have recently been vaccinated and hear about "the new Shingles shot."

I normally use these forums as a way to wax poetic, but I want to ask you all a couple questions:

What are we to recommend for the time being until Shingrix is out on the market?
If I just gave a Zostavax for a patient, do I recommend they get the new shot immediately or should they wait a certain time? (Or is it more risk-based?)

After google searches, I'm not finding reliable information since GSK is blasting the SEO (https://www.gsk.com/en-gb/media/press-releases/cdc-s-advisory-committee-on-immunization-practices-recommends-shingrix-as-the-preferred-vaccine-for-the-prevention-of-shingles-for-adults-aged-50-and-up/), so I'm grateful for any insight. Thanks, everyone!

I would recommend the Zostavax to everyone that the vaccination is warranted to because it will provide some level of protection until the Shingrix is fully available to our pharmacies. I would recommend everyone who has received the Zostavax, to then get revaccinated with the Shingrix vaccine when it becomes available.

Thanks, Kevin, and thanks to everyone else who responded to me off-forum! I appreciate the information.

A couple tidbits I've learned since I originally posted this:

- The minimum interval between Zostavax and Shingrix is 8 weeks. (Thanks, Miranda!)
- Pharmacists' Letter gave a comprehensive review of what to know regarding comparing Shingrix and Zostavax administration, definitely recommend reading that, too. (Thanks, Emily!)
- Now that we're closer to Shingrix's release (hopefully), we will have some really interesting conversations with out patients. (Thanks, everyone!)

Has anyone given one yet? Would like to hear if insurance is covering it as well?

Updating our Standing Order first to allow us to administer it. I'll let you know what happens on the first administration. :)
